Since 1982, the Grand Dominion Jazz
Band has been one of the best-known, and most admired New Orleans style groups on the
festival circuit. They have performed at all major U.S. festivals, including the
Sacramento Jubilee, San Diego Thanksgiving Dixieland Festival, Los Angeles Classic,
Gateway (St. Louis), Bessie Smith (Chattanooga), Central City, Santa Rosa Dixiejazz Fest,
San Juan Island (WA), TerrifVic Jazz Party (Victoria, BC), Scottsdale (AZ), Summit (CO),
and many others. The Grand Dominion has also been featured on cruises to Alaska, the
Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and from Barcelona to Athens. Additionally, they have
appeared at festivals in Brecon, Wales; Edinburgh, Scotland; Marciac, France and have
toured throughout the UK.
The band sports a beautifully integrated front line and an infectious, driving rhythm
section. The results are a driving, energetic New Orleans style which has made the Grand
Dominion the standard by which most current-day revival bands are judged. One reason for
the band's success is the stability of its personnel, which at this writing has remained
the same for many years. Their repertoire includes the New Orleans standards associated
with Bunk Johnson, George Lewis, Kid Ory, and the Preservation Hall bands, urban and
country blues, rare gospel numbers and an extensive list of pop tunes - many of British
origin."
